Flashback Fridays Vol.22 – Sheyba
This edition, two long-time producers and DJs with distinctive sounds in a classic early track: Kristian Thinning Andersen & Jean Borelli with their amazing Sheyba track ‘Into the Fourth Dimension’.
A long-time DJ and producer of various styles, Kristian used the moniker Chris Anderson to get around a contract with Nova Zembla in the nineties, producing some brilliant trance tracks as his solo project ‘Elysium’ while also collaborating as Kaaya with Voodoo People’s Paul Jackson, Kailash with Tsuyoshi Suzuki, Undercover with Graham Wood, and Sheyba with Jean Borelli.
Borelli had begun DJ’ing in 1993 and his first trance production was Sheyba tracks on Flying Rhino represented here with Kristian in 1995. Two years later, Borelli began his Orion project, which he has continued in the intervening years.
In this early production, both musicians fuse their unique flavours in the track, Kristian’s organic, earthy, and rather funky tribal energy along with Borelli’s spacey, otherworldly cosmic vibe. The track features a tribal baseline with a hypnotic pattern, an eerie airy synth line, a male choral sample that adds to the tribal atmosphere, a bouncy melodic figuration, and a spoken sample that shifts the dancers perspective to look down upon our planet from the wider viewpoint of outer space.
A terrific spiritual track by two brilliant producers, connecting the earth plane to the cosmic.
