Happy Record Store Day
Today is Record Store Day, and so I thought I would share the upload of the compilation which was the first Goa CD that I found back in late 1994. I had been dancing at one of the Tokyo ‘Odyssey’ parties and a friend leaned over and said ‘If you like this, you’ll probably like Dragonfly Records’ (thanks, Mark D!). So once I had recovered from the weekend, I went to the Cisco Techno shop in Shibuya in Tokyo and found this CD. It was expensive, as CDs were in Tokyo back then – about $25-30 – but I bought it, put it in the portable CD player that I had with me (ah, the days of the Discman), and from the first notes, a shiver of excitement came over me as I heard the kind of music that I had only been able to hear at the events themselves for the preceding couple of months.
I’m not sure that I ever heard that first track played out (it’s still a great favourite, with the wonderful Graham Wood) but of course I knew others, and LSD soon became the signature track of the Goa scene that year.
And now we can hear the whole thing at the click of a button… That said, I do suggest – especially on Record Store Day today – that we all make an effort to purchase some music to put some money into the scene and support the musicians who make the music we love. Happy listening!
